A friend just sent this to me published June 12 by the Chicago Tribune. It’s a great article/interview with Michael Lanza, one of the editors of Backpacker Magazine.
This article talks about hitting hiking trails early and often with the kids.
When it comes to getting started, no matter how young they are, Lanza encourages you to just GO FOR IT!
“”Take them out even though you know it will be a lot of work for you,” Lanza says. “Wait until they’re older and you may find that your child isn’t interested in hiking.”
Great article encouraging you to hike with your youngsters and includes some tips to do so.
Granted you probably won’t be doing a multi-day hike with an internal backpack, but definitely a daypack for a nice dayhike including water, sunscreen, and other treats
