Western Pack Hiking Backpack Product Description
While even the avid hiker may not know about the Western Pack Hiking Backpack, it is a fairly solid piece of backpack work. And Western Pack a.k.a. Western Case Company has a generous FIVE YEAR WARRANTY on all their products (excluding wear and tear of course). We heard of this backpack while researching many other well known brands and there is a small and adoring following of hikers for this 5400ci backpack.
There are MANY pockets for organization, but not overwhelming. Lots of zippers and also top and bottom compartment access. Two large side zipper pockets, two mesh pockets, even two small pouches below the side pockets. There are a myriad of ways to organize this so everything you want is within easy reach.
There are a lot of D-rings and external loops for further “configuration”. Includes thoracic strap between shoulder straps for support, compression side straps, safety chest strap, and a grab handle on the back. Includes a nice ventilation system provides air-flow for all-day comfort.
WHAT’S TO LIKE ABOUT THE Western Pack Hiking Backpack
- Lots and lots and lots of pockets.
- Huge amounts of storage space inside for a 5400ci
- Fairly light but durable material
- Quality zippers/buckles/connectors – very sturdy
- VERY INEXPENSIVE for a 5400ci backpack
BUT BE AWARE OF ..
- While this could be classified as an “Internal Frame Backpack”, the “internal frame” isn’t anything more than a sheet of plastic. NO ALUMINUM. (as opposed to the Cuscus 4000ci and Cuscus 5400ci internal frame backpacks).
- No rain cover. Buy one separately (this pack is cheap enough you will have some extra $$ to spend)
- Looks wise – it is a bit on the “plain” side (which could be your thing). We prefer the green/orange/colorful “outdoorsy” look.
Overall, the Western Pack Hiking Backpack is pretty much a no frills, straightforward, “practical” hiking backpack. It’s HUGE and you can fill a lot of stuff into this durable fabric. It doesn’t have the same look and rugged feel and “outdoorsy” feel as many of the other hiking backpacks, but If you’re looking for no frills and inexpensive to boot, this is a surprisingly great choice for a hiking backpack.
What Buyers Are Saying
“An unbelievable deal on a pretty nice backpack. I bought this expecting to do some work to get it trailready. I think i underestimated the pack. I was very very very surprised at the quality and design of this pack. Tremendous amounts of storage. This pack is HUGE! Yet it is very light. The fabric is good quality..I honestly expected cheap fabric barely stitched at this price. LOTs of compression straps. Overall i think this pack is a fantastic deal… (READ MORE)”
“Firstly, this pack is not fancy. There are no embroidered logos, no racheting straps, no “biometeric comfort system”. As for the size,: Hammock, underquilt, fleece liner, sleeping bag, thermals, water, food, poncho, gear, an entire military closed cell foam pad (you heard me); it swallowed them all. As for durability, mine has been rugged and tough. I used force to stuff my sleeping bag into the lower compartment, I drug it over fallen trees, I laid it against rocks at the campsite. I neither abused nor coddled it. It is a great pack for 37 bucks [I paid for it]… (READ MORE)”
“I have to say that for the price I paid I did not expect such high quality! Definitely worth every penny. Very stable and well built and plenty of storage space. One thing I find most pleasing is that there are two long pockets on the side that a water bladder fits perfectly in to-perfect for long trips with little water sources. This pack comes highly recommended… (READ MORE)”
